The identifications, guides, and safety information on this site are provided for general educational purposes. Snake identification from a photo is not always certain. Never handle, approach, or rely on this site to determine whether a snake is dangerous.

If you or someone else has been bitten, treat it as a medical emergency. Call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 immediately. Do not wait for an online reply.
Our help is best-effort
- We are volunteers and respond as quickly as we can, but we cannot guarantee a reply within any specific time.
- Relocation services are offered when volunteers and conditions allow, and are not guaranteed.
- We are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from the use of information or services provided through this site.
Photos you share
When you send us a photo, you confirm it is yours to share and you grant us permission to use it to help identify the snake. We may, with your permission, use anonymized photos for educational content.
Wildlife and the law
Many snakes are protected under Virginia law. We encourage coexistence and never harming snakes. You are responsible for complying with applicable local and state wildlife regulations.
